This is the first time Red Deer has ever had a council by-election, meaning it’s a huge opportunity to vote for a councillor we feel will step up for the issues that are important to us.

It’s a huge opportunity for all of us. If you’ve ever wanted change in our communities—which we’re sure you have—this is your chance to vote for it. And your vote really matters. Municipal elections, especially by-elections typically have low turnout—which means they’re decided by just a handful of votes. Because there are no parties at the local level, these leaders are accountable to us—not their party.

But the first step is making sure we vote for a candidate that has the same values we do. That’s why we all need to head to the polls on April 22nd. We’ll be endorsing a candidate who promises to build and maintain strong public services, strong and safe schools for our kids, and sustainable growth for our region.

Because here’s the thing. The people we elect are supposed to work for us. So why do they feel so far removed from our day-to-day needs, making decisions about us without us? We want representation that actually cares, never taking their position for granted. That’s why we’re invested in—and mobilizing for—electing engaged leaders.

So, are you with us? Will you make sure to head to the polls on April 22, and encourage your friends and family to do the same?

That’s what we thought. Pledge to vote in the by-election and we’ll send you everything you need to know.
